AI requires larger data centers
According to analysis by Savills and the Statista project (statista.com), the European artificial intelligence market will reach 76.5 billion euros this year, up 25.9% from 2023. By 2030, it is expected that the annual growth rate of 15.9%. Not only these figures confirm that artificial intelligence is gaining its application across industries, and data centers will not be an exception.
“Many specialized artificial intelligence data centers are not location dependent and therefore will likely be concentrated in regions with sufficient energy resources, especially green energy,” says Ondřej Míček, Head of Industrial Agency at Savills. On the contrary, with the advent of AI-based services and applications that require fast data processing, the importance of edge data centers located near the places where data is generated will increase in importance to minimize its delay.
| The benefit of artificial intelligence in data centers | Demands on data centers due to the use of AI |
| Real-time resource utilization | State-of-the-art center facilities and equipment |
| Operational efficiency and economy | Infrastructure |
| Resource planning as needed | Building design and maintenance |
| Data center equipment maintenance forecast | Operational and security protocols |
| Prediction of possible failures | Expansion of surfaces due to HW dimensions |
| Cyber security | Location of data centers in regions |
| Improving energy efficiency | Plenty of green energy sources |
| Reducing the ecological footprint of data centers | Increased load capacity of the floors due to the higher weight of the hardware |
| Intelligent management of cooling systems and lighting | Cooling infrastructure |
Ondřej Míček adds: “Artificial intelligence is a benefit for data centers, on the other hand, it changes their requirements. It is mainly used in the optimization of resources, cyber security or reducing the ecological footprint of data centers. At the same time, AI is changing the infrastructure, requiring more space due to increasing storage capacity and hardware.” In the field of cybersecurity, AI technologies can detect potential data center security threats and can quickly respond to mitigate risks.
