Retail logistics is on the threshold of major changes

Retail logistics is currently facing many demands and problems. Consumer demand is falling, logistics and stores are suffering from a lack of workers, and demands for reducing greenhouse gases and achieving ESG goals are growing. In addition, the pressure to use electrified vehicles is increasing, and the regulation of cities and municipalities complicates logistics. Retail trade will also not avoid costly investments in automation and robotics. Retail logistics faces many challenges that do not make it easy.

Jana Čožíková, Associate of the industrial team at Savills, also commented on this topic:

Retail logistics is influenced in many ways by consumer trends. This is primarily about digitization in the area of the entire supply-customer chain, which no one avoids. It has been an integral part of logistics for many years and its share will grow in the future,” says Jana Čožíková, associate Industrial Agency at Savills.

As consumer demand increases, requirements for speed, transparency of the entire system, and lower error rates increase. “At the same time, the long-term lack of qualified labor forces companies to invest not only in digitalization, but also in automation. In addition, all this goes hand in hand with higher requirements for data storage and security,” further points out Jana Čožíková.

Another, very significant trend is the ecological economy and ESG. Fluctuating energy and fuel prices over the past 12 months have caused companies to focus more and more on the production of energy from renewable sources and also on its storage. You could even say that they see it as their top priority. This has taken ESG to a higher level and thus “kicked” our company to move from ambition to action. Companies are trying to reduce their carbon footprint, and customers are increasingly aware of the importance of environmental protection. They then look for services and products that are more friendly to them.”
